Mar 3-5 at Barber Motorsports Park, AL

2023 a new year brings a new challenge, as a team we chose to go East and challenge the best in WRL on some of the greatest tracks in this great country.

Our First challenge was rebuilding the cars afer the 25 hours of Thunderhill. Amazing what a season can do to a car, and then a 25 hour race effecfvely puts another full seasons running in just one weekend.

New engines and transmissions are sourced. A new brake package is the result of a new partnership with Essex, AP Racing and Ferodo. Suspension bits are replaced for a new season.

A more effective nose and splitter is built and fitted to the car and then we are out of time, it is time for our 1st WRL event in March 2023

But first we must learn what it takes to travel as a team across the country. It’s a bit more involved than the 4-8 hour commutes we have become accustomed to. Planes, Rigs, Rental cars and accommodations are a part of each race.

The first race is in Alabama at Barber Raceway Park. What a facility! We bring both cars though the #15 (formerly the #25) is there just to prepare for the next event. Our focus this weekend is to run the #14 (formerly the #24) and to learn how the WRL works.

Weather on Friday does not cooperate with us and yet between Thunderstorms our drivers were eventually able to get a few laps on the track. Did we mention that none of our drivers had ever been to Barber?

Saturday comes sooner than expected, in fact the early starts needed for the 7-9 hour events is going to be something for our team to get used to. Last season our days didn’t really start until almost noon, this year we will be taking the green often at 8am, meaning we will need to be at the track by 6am to warm up the cars and our bodies and get on grid and ready to race. Once the green flag flies we settle in to a familiar rhythm and by the end of the day we will finish the race with our first podium of the year! We managed to finish third place and also realized how strong the competition was this season.

Sunday came again too early, but the car ran steadily through the day, unfortunately our speed wasn’t enough and 6th place was all we could manage.

Our notes from the weekend included a need for more power as well as a queston regarding our tire package. Our step up to GP1 was aggressive given we were running our E36’s that had previously been built to NASA ST5 spec which in WRL was the equivalent of GP2.

We could have run GP2, but wanted to truly challenge ourselves to step up the ladder. This competition is indeed fierce and will require us to grow as a team. Thank you to Bimmerworld, Apex Wheels, Red Line Oil, AGA Tools, Swi􀅌 Springs, and Rugged Radios amongst others for all your support.
